The Marten River area, located some 60 km (35 mi) north of North Bay on Hwy 11, is truly the "Jewel of the North" . Many travellers stop to have their photos taken with our "Big Fish" - a real eye catcher, located at one of the local restaurants.
Visitors to the Marten River Provincial Park are offered a variety of activities and services including camping facilities, children's programs, guided tours and exhibits. Hiking trails, which become cross country skiing trails in the winter months, wind through the majestic forest . Marten River Provincial Park has recreated an authentic old Logging Camp within the park. Walk through at your own pace or join in the park's annual logging days in July. Step back in time when timbering was done by men and horses.
Stay awhile and choose from a host of accommodations, whether it be a hotel or your own comfortable cottage at a lodge or resort in the vicinity. Restaurants, gift shops, groceries, gas, licenses, post office, bait and tackle, hunting and fishing guides are among the many small businesses that help make Marten River a one stop destination.
The vast expanse of sparkling lakes, rivers and streams nestled among the seemingly endless amount of forest landscape provides excellent fishing for walleye, northern pike, bass, perch, whitefish and trout species. Volunteers operate a local fish stocking program to ensure the population of these species is protected in our waters for many future generations.

During the spring and fall, hunters from around the world come to the Marten River area for a hunt that is second to none. Resort operators and guides do their utmost to provide all the services you need for a quality hunt, whether it's bear, moose, small game or waterfowl.
Feeling adventuresome? Spotting moose and other wildlife, bird watching and exploring can all be part of your agenda. Go on a quiet hike through the Provincial Crown Game Preserve that spans over 55,000 hectares (215 sq. mi.) of unspoiled wilderness, or off on our network of back country trails.

The "Jewel of the North" also shines in the winter. Here is a snowmobiler's paradise where you can ride the OFSC groomed trails or venture through miles of spectacular wilderness trails. Cross country skiing, snowshoeing, dogsled adventures and ice fishing are all popular activities for winter enthusiasts. Several of our resorts have winterized cottages or rooms in which to stay.
Abundant wilderness and warm hospitality will combine to make your northern vacation truly memorable.
