Located 32 km north of Marten River on Hwy 11, Temagami is world-renowned for its sparkling lakes, majestic forests and unspoiled wilderness. At the south end of Temagami is the Welcome Centre, standing at the foot of the bay. The Welcome Centre houses a number of tourist facilities, municipal offices, a 90 seat theatre, a public library, art gallery and display area. The Temagami region encompassing Lake Temagami, includes some of Ontario's finest canoe country. Temagami (Ojibway for "Deep Water By The Shore") typifies the lakes of the region. This vast water playground has hundreds of kilometres of shoreline with over 1200 islands. Irregular shapes and numerous bays make it ideal for a wide range of activities: canoeing, boating, cruising in rental houseboats, windsurfing, sailing and water skiing. Public boat launches are located in the Town of Temagami, on Temagami Marine Road and at the end of the Lake Temagami Access Road.

The Temagami region provides canoeing opportunities, with interconnecting canoe routes , hundreds of rock and pine clad lakes, adjoining wetlands, wild rivers, breathtaking scenery and a diverse wildlife. The unique and varied features of this area have been recognized in the establishment of several waterway and wilderness provincial parks.

Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Wilderness Park contains scenic lookouts at Maple Mountain, and Ontario's rooftop, the Ishpatina Ridge. At 693 metres, it is Ontario's Highest point. Other popular points are the blue waters of Smoothwater and Sunnywater Lakes, numerous hiking trails and scenic waterfalls. Obabika River Waterway Park extends southwest along Lady Evelyn Lake, Diamond Lake and Obabika River.

Known as "Big Pine Country", this area boasts pristine lakes lined with old pine. The Obabika River contains wetland communities famous among nature photographers for moose observation, while the Wakimika Triangle is noted for old growth pine stands and hiking trails. Running to the northwest is the Sturgeon River Waterway Park, with over 60 sets of rapids, providing early season canoeists with plenty of whitewater fun! Completing the loop back to Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Park is the Solace Waterway Park, with its classic flatwater paddling through pristine lakes.

Fishing on "the big lake" and in the myriad of smaller lakes rewards the angler with lake trout, pickerel (walleye), smallmouth bass, pike and whitefish. Other lakes and streams provide speckled, brook and rainbow trout. Volunteers operate the Temagami Area Fish Involvement Program to ensure the population of these species is protected in our waters for many future generations. The program was started in 1985. Visit the hatchery on Lakeshore Dr., west of the Municipal Building.

Interpretive hiking trails wind through the ancient pine stands on Temagami Island. The Ferguson Trails in Ferguson Bay area and the White Bear Forest hiking trail system in the Caribou Mountain area provide varying degrees of challenge as well. The White Bear Forest is an uncut forest containing stands of old growth red and white pine, with its attendant ecosystem features. A series of looped trails provides educational as well as inspirational hike, ranging from 2 to 6 hours, or overnight if desired.

Finlayson Point Provincial Park is located 1 km south of the town of Temagami, situated on Lake Temagami. A small museum features displays of historic logging artifacts, old tools, and locally found fossils and minerals.

Caribou Mountain has a lookout with a breathtaking view of the of the village and northeast arm of Lake Temagami. The 100' Temagami Fire Tower stands on the summit of the mountain 400' above the town and 1300' above sea level. It is the highest point on Yonge St. (Hwy 11). The cupola at the top commands an amazing 360° view in excess of 40 km.

Temagami is a four-season paradise, with excellent ice-fishing for whitefish, walleye, and northern pike. Groomed and signed snowmobile trails cover over 400 km and connect with trails leading to other areas. Accommodation and fuel are readily available. Dog sled touring is available from area lodges and outfitters as either day trip or as an overnight excursion.
