The following terms are sometimes used by our members:
AMERICAN PLAN: An all-inclusive deal in renting accomodations where the cost of meals is included along with the cost of the room.
BED & BREAKFAST: Usually a private residence where the owners have chosen to host guests by providing comfortable, home-like conditions. These accomodations often include an evening snack and breakfast in the morning.
BOAT/MOTOR RENTALS: A service provided where the guest rents a boat and motor combination usually already in the water and ready to go.
BOAT LAUNCH/DOCK: This can be either a free service or a paid one. A boat launch is used to put the boat into the body of water while a dock is used to secure the boat when not in use.
CAMPGROUND/RV PARK: An area used for a range of overnight accommodation, from tenting to serviced trailer sites, including accessory facilities which support the use, such as administrative offices, laundry facilities, washrooms, support recreation facilities, but not including the use of mobile homes, or other forms of moveable shelter on a permanent year-round basis.
CANOE/KAYAK RENTAL & OUTFITTING: Rentals of vessels propelled through the water using a paddle. A canoe is completely open on top while a kayak is completely covered except for the cockpit in which the operator sits.
DINING FACILITY: A place where a meal can be purchased.
DOG SLEDDING: An outdoor winter activity where a 1 or 2 person sled is pulled down trails by a team of dogs.
FISHING CHARTERS: A fishing trip which includes a guide, equipment and sometimes meals and accomodations.
FLY-IN SERVICE: Some remote lakes and camps are inaccessable by automobile, therefore a fly-in service will specialize in getting people to their remote destination.
HOTEL: An establishment that provides lodging and usually meals and other services for travelers and other paying guests.
HOUSEKEEPING COTTAGE: These are multiple small cabins on the same property. This included housekeeping cottages that are often associated with motels or motor courts. Typically they are rented to visitors daily or weekly. Most include kitchen facilities, sleeping facilities and private bath inside the unit. They also include housekeeping service.
HOUSEBOAT RENTALS: Rentals of a large, flat-bottom boat with square sides and house-like characteristics, such as comfortable furniture and living conditions.
HUNTING/FISHING GUIDES: An experienced outdoorsman who will provide advice and/or equipment for hunting and fishing.
HUNTING/FISHING LICENSES: In order to hunt or fish in Canada, you must first obtain a hunting or fishing license which is issued by the individual provinces.
LIQUOR LICENSED: An establishment where alcoholic beverages are served. Not all establishments are licensed to sell liquor.
MOTEL: A type of hotel in which parking is provided at or near the room and the door gives out onto the parking lot.
OUTPOST CAMP: A camp or lodge located in a remote area usually accessible by airplane, boat, snowmobile or means other than an automobile.
PETS ALLOWED: These accomodations will allow at least some type of pet. It is advised to check with the individual accomodation as all types of animals may not be allowed.
WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE: An establishment that meets the needs of someone in a wheelchair.
